Lunch break is the highlight of my workday. It usually begins with my coworkers and I voting on where we are going to eat or order take out from. Months ago they introduced me to one of their favorite restaurants, Salad Plus. It is located on Dixie highway in Boca. The menu offers different kinds of sandwiches, wraps and salads. The selection includes a ready made salad, or customers can make their own salad, choosing from the type of leaves to be used, down to the croutons they want.

I went to Ginza around 11:30am. The servers were cordial and we were immediately seated. There are several sections of their Japanese buffet: the sushi section, the seafood area, the hibachi grill, the assorted table, and the dessert bar. I immediately went to the hibachi grill to order a seafood hibachi medley composed of shrimp, squid, chicken, and zucchini.

Every once in a while, being a Filipino, I crave for my hometown food. I can cook most of the dishes, the only problem is, it takes a long time for most of it to cook and I usually cook in huge quantities (my mother was the one who taught me to cook large portions. lol!). Since there are only a few Filipinos living in my area, the only way for me to have instant access to cooked Filipino food is to go south in Fort Lauderdale near the port area.

When I walked into Fridays it seemed a little quiet. Keep in mind it was not yet dinner time (4:30). I decided to order quesadillas and the gourmet mac n' five cheese from their "right portion, right size" menu ($6.99-$9.99).

Coming from the Philippines, sea food has always been a big part of my diet. Shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, anemone, sea cucumber, all types of fish...you name it, I eat it. Legal Sea Foods has always been my mainstay sea food restaurant in New York and now that I am here in Florida, I am happy to go here from time to time, when my cravings and budget are in alignment.

Being away from the Philippines for quite some time now, every so often I crave an authentic Filipino dish. Unfortunately, my schedule does notpermit me to cook so I am reduced to looking for a Filipino restaurant here in South Florida. It is a happy coincidence there is one near my mother’s place called Meng-Li’s.

At Kyojin the food preparers combine what Japanese food is primarily known for: Sushi rolls and Hibachi. They have the greatest assortment of sushi rolls that one can pick from be it raw, synthetic or cooked. Another station they have offers fried/cooked foods such as tempura, tonkatsu, and vegetable fried rice. Next is the Hibachi area where anyone can order freshly cooked steak, chicken, or shrimp along with a variety of vegetables. Their penultimate section is composed of their raw/cold seafood followed by a dessert bar.
